My name is Ryan, otherwise known as the GuildMaster around here. This whole project has been a dream slowly becoming reality for me; and with the help of some of my closest friends, it’s actually happening. What’s led me to this point in life? Why now? Well, to understand that, you need to know a bit about me. So here goes…
I’ve always been into gaming. As a young child I would join my siblings at the game table for classic board games like Monopoly, Scrabble, and even Trivia Adventure (I still have this game, and it is precious to me). Then, I received my first console, the Nintendo Entertainment System, where I played Duck Hunt, Mario Brothers, and that old track sports game that had the big floor pad. I branched out into games like ExciteBike, Q’bert, and more. I had so much fun as a child playing by myself or with my family and friends. Then came the GameBoy, and a whole new world of gaming opened up for me. Portable gaming. It sparked new loves and franchises that I still love today, including Pokemon.
As I grew, and new systems came out, I would beg and pester my family for the latest game and console. Until I discovered PC gaming. Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft, Command & Conquer, and so much more. PC gaming is still where my video game heartbeat lives, especially in games like Guild Wars 2 and Final Fantasy XIV. As an adult, however, I have come to desire close interaction with my friends, and that can only be found at the tabletop.
A few years ago, I discovered a show on YouTube called Tabletop, hosted by Wil Wheaton. It was on a channel called Geek & Sundry, so I hit the all-familiar “subscribe” button and binged the show in a day. Season 1 was the only season available and to fill that void I started watching a little show on the channel called Critical Role. A show where some of my favorite voice actors from video games and cartoons played Dungeons & Dragons together. I was hooked. Tabletop introduced me to a new renaissance of board gaming, and Critical Role gave me a passion for all things D&D.
Fast forward to today. I now run two D&D campaigns. One in person campaign, and another here on GuildMaster Media called Blades of the Defiant. I am still learning to tell my stories with the aid of my players, but as long as we’re having fun together, I am happy. Also, I host a monthly board game day to record episodes for our show Of Dice & Meeples. My friends and I get to sit around a table, play games, and ultimately entertain our viewers! The “problem” with this tabletop hobby, though, is all the side hobbies you find yourself in. I now paint miniatures, which you can watch on Tabletop Ready, where I put my mediocre painting skills to new minis so I can terrorize my D&D players. Also, I have a “respectable” dice collection now, with more on the way thanks to Kraken Dice.
In my personal life outside of gaming, I am a husband to a very loving and understanding wife, and the father to an amazing little girl. Professionally, I repair computers for a local shop. I have 3 ankle-biter dogs that are mildly annoying but I love ’em.
Come hang out with me when I stream and you might get to learn a little more! See you at the table!
